  • The way we think about spatial experience (e.g. cognitive memory, wayfinding principles) can inform user experience design, especially when it comes to discovery of virtual spaces and concepts.

To put this into practice, I’ve been exploring how a combination of UX visual design and narrative spatial practices can help us: find a picturesque destination; understand a concept; learn a process; consider a habit change; undergo a memorable experience along the way; or develop new ways of working with others.

On top of that: curiosity, constant learning and collaboration are key. Fascinated by urban and linguistic structures, I’m grateful to have lived in (and been inspired by) several European cities!

  • ‘Discovery in flux’ was the title of my doctoral research project (Central St Martins UAL, 2012–2019).

My thesis focused on design for exploratory walking in changing urban landscapes. I chose this research area based on ca. 7 years of my design practice until then. This was a practice-led project, and included a mix of UX design methods, ethnographic research, and spatial theory .

Be it a design of a web portal, educational materials, or a navigation app—I’ve been informing my practice with the research ever since. I also aim to spark connections between disciplines, and combine professional and academic insight.

For this reason, the site you are on is named after the research project: Discovery in flux.

  • Designing ‘Narrative environments’ = designing spatial stories. My practice is in this very area, with the focus on strongly visual tools for virtual/physical spaces.

The term Narrative environments was coined at UAL Central Saint Martins, by the MANE course and my doctoral research supervisor—Patricia Austin. Narrative environments are spatial stories that can be found across cultural, civic, technological and digital spaces. A narrative environment can be a city, a venue, an interactive app or a framework in which game play can happen—anywhere where stories can unfold in space.

Through my practice I aim to connect public spheres (websites, cities, venues, information realms that surround us) with unique narratives, needs or experiences that we value – individually, or as a group or a community.

Hi, I’m a product designer, researcher & educator who creates experiences that help discover concepts & places.

Most recently, creating narrative environments at Philips and leading the learning experiences for Filament design system. Also, guest lecturing on UX methods and sharing my doctoral research.

An avid urban walker, map and heritage admirer, hobbyist linguist and language learner (en/nl/pl/it/es).
